The Fire That Preached. The Gospel That Sang. — Two Voices of the Great Awakening

TWO VOICES. ONE SAVIOR. ONE GREAT AWAKENING.

The eighteenth-century evangelical awakening was more than extraordinary preaching and enduring sacred song. It was a recovery of the gospel's power to awaken sinners, renew the church, and direct believers toward Jesus Christ.

The fire that preached: Howell Harris

Howell Harris (1714–1773) helped shape the Welsh evangelical awakening through urgent gospel proclamation, prayer, spiritual fellowship, and itinerant ministry. His life also raises a searching question: how does the gospel correct and sanctify the preacher himself?

The gospel that sang: Charles Wesley

Charles Wesley (1707–1788) was an evangelistic preacher, pastor, theologian, and poet whose hymns gave the church enduring scriptural language for the incarnation, cross, assurance, prayer, the Holy Spirit, holy love, and Christian hope.

Two distinct witnesses. One glorious Savior.

The two men belonged to overlapping eighteenth-century evangelical networks, but their convictions were not identical. Harris's Calvinistic Methodist theology and Charles Wesley's evangelical Arminianism deserve careful historical treatment. This proposed project explores their distinctive contributions without manufacturing agreement or flattening their differences.

A new historical teaching initiative

Joab Rico Mission is preparing two independent works: Howell Harris on the Christian Life: The Fire of God and the Salvation of Souls, and Charles Wesley on the Christian Life: The Sweet Singer of the Great Awakening & Unsung Hero Preacher. Source-aware essays, biblical teaching, hymn studies, and short videos are planned as research and production permit.

Both books remain independent projects under editorial development. No publisher acceptance, release date, endorsements, or preorders are implied by this preview.

Beyond the Great Awakening: Robert Murray M’Cheyne

Joab Rico Mission's historical-theological writing also includes Robert Murray M’Cheyne on the Christian Life: The Beauty of Christ and the Pursuit of Holiness, a later nineteenth-century Scottish study. Its working manuscript explores prayer, Christ-centered preaching, pastoral care, and holiness. It is in editorial development; no publisher acceptance or release date is being claimed.
